Pet nutrition tips and advice, healthy pet food using fresh ingredients.

The quality of the pet food is not always determined by the price you pay.  Like any other processed food, emulsifiers and food colourings are added to your pet’s food.

Depending on your pet’s health, age and breed, dietary requirements may differ.

Although a lot of human food ingredients are not suitable for your pet, like milk,chocolate, nuts and bread, there are fresh ingredients that can be added to your pets daily food diet.

Natural ingredients that can benefit your pet’s health:
  • Beetroot – is a good source of dietary fibre, promoting healthy intestines.
  • Carrots – Helps prevent constipation and promotes healthy blood flow.
  • Broccoli – Rich in vitamins, low calories, promotes a healthy heart.
  • Lettuce – Excellent source of Vitamin A and antioxidants, low in calories.
  • Peas – Improves blood circulation, an excellent source of protein and iron.
  • Olive oil – Rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, good for the heart.

Fish is an excellent source of protein and essential oils, beneficial to immune system, bones and coat.

Potatoes are a good source of fibre and release energy slowly, essential to strong vitality.

Tomatoes when cooked contains an excellent source of lypocene, beneficial to the heart and blood cells.  It is said to reduce the risk of cancer.

This pet nutrition list is not extensive and these ingredients should only be used as supplements for a healthy diet.  For pet diet advice always consult a qualified Vet.

In addition to the above ingredients, an ideal pet food diet should contain a combination of dry and wet food.
Wet food on its own may be to rich because of additives food manufacturers tend to add, causing gum disease.
When feeding your pet with only dry food, extra care is required for a balanced diet.  Also ensure that extra water is provided.

Regardless of diet choice, always ensure your pet has fresh water available.
